Chiara Bersani

On a stage with a white floor and dark background, a performer sits low to the ground with legs folded beneath the body, wearing a light sleeveless garment. The torso leans slightly back while both arms are raised upward, hands open. Overhead light illuminates the figure and casts a soft shadow on the floor.

“Seeking Unicorns” is a performance designed for non-theatrical spaces: empty, full, silent, and crowded spaces. Spaces whose light and history ask to be listened to and inhabited. Spaces in which the unicorn tries to find itself in a new form, in which it renounces the fairy tales of the theatre to begin a journey destined to be different for every audience. The unicorn is always looking for the other, it is on the hunt. It experiments with new forms of love, finds something, or not, and in the meantime, small wonders can happen that might completely change its search and seeking. In “Seeking Unicorns”, Chiara Bersani uses the wonder of the unicorn to explode and reconfigure performance’s habitual routines. Chiara invites her audience to receive and imagine the body of the performer, as well as their own bodies, and the bodies that surround them, in new and inconceivable ways.

Chiara Bersani is an Italian performer and choreographer active in the field of performing arts, research theatre and contemporary dance. Her works, presented in international circuits, are born as creations in dialogue with spaces of different nature. Her research as an interpreter and author is based on the concept of the “Political Body” and the creation of practices aimed at training its presence and action. The “manifest” work of this research is “Gentle Unicorn”. For the rigor in embodying this study she was awarded the UBU Award for best new actress / performer under 35 for 2018. In August 2019, during the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, Gentle Unicorn and Chiara Bersani won the first prize in the dance category of the Total Theatre Awards. Chiara Bersani is an Associate Artist of Triennale Milano Teatro 2025-2027 and nominated for the SEDA - Salavisa European Dance Award 2026.
