Moving Meetings
Moving Meetings are monthly gatherings for dance professionals of all genres, dance cultures, roles and backgrounds to come together to reflect, engage, share and be curious about each other’s practices, beliefs and experiences. Through these meetings the Tanztriennale would like to foster dialogue and exchange on relevant themes and across boundaries that often separate the different dance communities, encouraging a spirit of openness and mutual discovery.

Moving Meeting #9
Label/Unlabel: How to move between visibility, identity and artistry?
April 20, 2026
18.30 - 21.00 h
LICHTHOF Probebühne Rentzelstraße 36, Hamburg
In English language, free admission
Registration recommended: office@tanztriennale.de
Whether it be a dance genre or an identity, labels are actively used in the dance field — they help claim space, build community, communicate identity and speak directly to the people we want to reach. But they also carry weight and limitations. They can follow artists in ways that are not chosen, shape how work is received before it is seen, and sometimes quietly limit what feels possible to make. The gathering for Moving Meeting #9 is an open conversation about the labels we embrace, carry and sometimes struggle against in the performing arts. We will explore together how naming can be a tool for more visibility and empowerment — and also how it can limit the creation process before it even begins.
